Lean & DemingNEXT: Connecting Deming’s Teachings with Lean Principles to Improve Performance

The Lean and Deming program expanded its participants' abilities to be effective at implementing Lean Continual Improvement in their organizations. An effective method used in this training program was DemingNEXT, an e-learning approach to Deming's philosophy. This talk will review three takeaway topics from the training; understanding variation, interpretation and application of data analysis methods, and newly defined and focused culture.

Tim McCarthy
MCI Coaching Solutions

Tim leads MCI Coaching Solutions, he has a Masters of Science in Organic Chemistry from the University of Montana, worked 30+ years with Eli Lilly and Co, in leadership positions while at Eli Lilly.  He’s certified as an ASQ Lean Bronze and Master Black Belt and has improved processes and coached leaders in manufacturing, research and development, HR, financial services, education, laboratories. As a Master Black Belt, Tim trains and coaches novice and experienced leaders.

Mike Goodrich
Consumers Energy

Mike is a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer within the Supplier Quality & Performance team at Consumers Energy. He has 20 years of experience as a quality professional and began his quality career at a US subsidiary of Toyota Industries, while completing his engineering degree at Michigan State University. During this time he traveled to Japan visiting Toyota HQ and worked alongside his Japanese colleagues where the “The Toyota Way” began with the teachings of Dr. Deming and Taiichi Ohno.

Payton Thomas

Born and raised in Northern Michigan, Payton graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Supply Chain Management and Political Science. She began her career in procurement and has since grown into continuous improvement and project management roles. Most recently, Payton has left her latest position to start a consulting company aimed at supporting companies and organizations in achieving quality. Outside of her career, Payton enjoys the great outdoors and spending time with her husband Evan and their son Elijah.
