What is a Gemba Walk?

Gemba Walks are on-site tours that give Lean and continuous improvement professionals the chance to "go see," stepping onto the floor of host organizations to observe real processes in real environments. Rather than hearing about Lean practice secondhand, attendees walk the actual workplace, ask thoughtful questions, and learn directly from teams doing the work of continuous improvement every day.

  • Opportunity to see Lean practiced live inside host organizations across automotive, healthcare, higher education, manufacturing, and public sector settings in Michigan.
  • Attendees can observe real processes firsthand, ask questions of the teams doing the work, and see how Lean tools function outside a classroom setting.
  • A guided, on-location experience built around direct observation of the workplace.

Why attend?

    • Learn from Practitioners: See how organizations apply Lean day-to-day, not just how they describe it.
    • See Lean in Action: There's no substitute for observing real processes where the work actually happens.
    • Networking Opportunities: Walk alongside other Lean professionals and swap perspectives in real time.
    • Share and Learn: Ask questions and compare notes with hosts and fellow attendees during the walk.
    • Stay Engaged: Bring back fresh ideas and a concrete look at what's possible in your own organization.
